Local businesses, large and small, are encouraged to take “The Popcorn Pledge”, as a way to reward their employees and clients with delicious Brown Bag Popcorn, while simultaneously helping to promote social justice in the Detroit Community, by supporting
SAY Detroit. 100% of the profits from the sale of Brown Bag Popcorn benefit those in our community who most need our help during these challenging times.
Starting September 15th, through October 15th, businesses are encouraged to visit www.brownbagpopcorn/pledge and place an order for delivery anytime between now and December 15th. Companies that take the pledge and purchase at least $1,000 worth of popcorn tins will be recognized and celebrated in a variety of ways that demonstrate our gratitude for their support.
“Brown Bag Popcorn and our sister store, The Detroit Water Ice Factory were both started in Detroit as a way to raise money to support SAY Detroit, which serves everyone from working moms, the homeless, senior citizens, veterans and young adults. We also operate a free clinic that provides ‘no questions asked’ medical care. The Popcorn Pledge is a way for local businesses to support social justice in our community by supporting the work of SAY Detroit,” said
Mitch Albom, SAY Detroit Founder.

Dear Friends of Brown Bag Popcorn:
Somerset Collection has announced its temporary closing today. As a result, our Brown Bag Popcorn store (third floor) will be closed at least through March 27th. We will however keep running a limited production operation, so we can offer special less expensive online deals to send you tins of popcorn should you need your fix of our delicious product, and want to continue to help Detroiters in need.
In keeping with SAY Detroit’s mission to serve our neighbors most in need, we have partnered with Somerset Collection to distribute our remaining popcorn supply to homeless and hungry Detroiters.
We take community and citizenship seriously, and want to do our part in fighting against the current challenge. We hope to reopen soon, and will share updates on our website and social media regarding reopening, as well as ways to continue supporting your favorite Brown Bag Popcorn, Detroit Water Ice Factory, and SAY Detroit.

On September 20, 2019, Brown Bag Popcorn celebrated the Grand Opening of its very own retail store in The Somerset Collection (North, Level 3). A successful holiday popup at The Somerset Collection’s North Food Court (Level 3) through the holidays at the end of 2018 showed that there is a taste for gourmet popcorn in metro Detroit.
The store concept and wall murals were generously designed by a team from The Mars Agency.
